About Glean Bean

    Glean Bean is a new way to view Miami Valley local news! The mission of this site is to allow you get the local news that's most important to you. When reading the local newspapers and watching the local television news we are often bombarded by what those papers think we should read. Glean Bean is here to combat this. This site allows you seed (submit) and feed (vote for) news items that you feel are most important. As other members of the site find the same news items important and feed them, the news item will make it to the front page. The idea is that the most important news to Miami Valley residents will be on the front page!

    You can submit ANY news item related to the Miami Valley. Currently the site gets automatic feeds from certain area newspapers, so check the "Upcoming Stories" section to see if a new story you want to sumbit is already there. You might get stories not only from area newspapers, but also blogs, forums and other local websites. To submit a new story just locate the story on the internet and copy the direct link. Come to Glean Bean and click "Seed a new story." Paste the link and follow the instructions. An even easier method is to use the Glean Bean bookmarklet; you can find instructions for its use at the bottom of your profile page.

    If you see a story already on Glean Bean that you think others should read, please Feed the story by clicking the feed link near the title of the story. If you would like to make a comment on the story click the discuss link underneath the story summary.

    My long term vision for this site is to make it a community fed news channel. I want people to be able to submit their own news stories and videos. This can be a place where people get to learn about news and aspects of our community they wouldn't otherwise learn. Please register today to get this online community going!
